Kavi Kamboi

Kavi Kamboi

“Certain things capture the eye but pursue only those that capture the heart”. Kavi Kamboi is one such touristy and spiritual place which captures the heart and soothes the eyes. It is a place with one of the famous temples named Stambheshwar Mahadev temple. Kavi Kamboi is at a distance of 78 kilometres from Vadodara with almost 1 hour 30 mins drive, it is located in the Bharuch district of Gujarat. Kavi Kamboi is well known for its renowned Mahadev temple. This temple is 150 years old and was built by Lord Shiva’s son Kartikeya. It is one of the most unusual Shiva shrines in India. Before I get into a brief story as to why the temple was made let me briefly describe the geography of this temple. It is a 4 feet high Shiva Lingam. It is a very simple temple in terms of its architecture which is located at Kavi Kamboi between the shores of the Bay of Cambay and the Arabian Sea. This temple is also known as the submerging temple because it submerges during the high tide and emerges out portraying the 4 feet high Shivling beautifully when the tide is low. This natural phenomenon takes place daily twice a day morning and evening to do the Jal Abhishek of the deity. Coming back to where I had mentioned reciting the story in brief, we have a small interesting tale behind the existence of this temple. Lord Shiva has two sons named Kartikeya is the eldest and Lord Ganesh is the youngest. Kartikeya killed a demon named Tarakasur (He was a worshipper of Lord Shiva) as he was a trouble for the local people and the sages. The act made him feel guilty. He resorted to lord Vishnu stating his act and expressing his guilt. Lord Vishnu advised him saying “Killing a wicked person, who nourishes himself on the blood of the innocent people, is not a sinful deed. But, still, if you are feeling the same then I advise you to atone for your sin by worshipping Lord Shiva. Install Shiva Lings and worship them with devotion”. That is exactly what Kartikeya did. He instructed Vishnukarma to make the Shivling. He honoured the Shivling daily by offering his pooja in the form of sesame seeds and prayed “May my offering in the form of sesame seeds reach Tarak – the descendant of sage Kashyap” and this way he was absolved of his sins. So this is how the Shivling emerged 150 years ago. The visit to this place can be planned for a day’s trip and one should plan it in such a manner that you get to witness the submerging and emerging process of the Shivling. During the Shravan month, Amavasya, Purnima, public holidays and weekends the place is flocking with people. You may also face problems with parking space which is free of cost. On other regular days, it’s not crowded. The beach is very clean except that the water is muddy and so you cannot enjoy the water by bathing in it. There is also an ashram where you can give donations to help them run it. The people who live there and take care of the ashram serve free meals from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm called an act of Seva. There are stalls near the temple which serve tea and light snacks but also advisable to carry snacks from home. Below is the timetable referring to which will help you plan your day trip to this serene and beautiful place. Jambughoda Part 1

Midst stunning ridge of “Jambughoda Wildlife Sanctuary” Part-1

Since coming home I have been constantly asked one question – Which is the best part of your Jambughoda wildlife sanctuary? I couldn’t select anyone to answer this as I am in love with every corner of the “Jambughoda Wildlife Sanctuary”. That said, there are many places in “Jambughoda” which I adore. Here are those places,Let me start with my favourite spot in Jambughoda-“Bhat” There are two locations which you can explore in “Bhat” Gagar Mata temple & watchtower I was unable to find a word to describe this place. Can you see the sunrise in the above picture? I am sure you loved it as I couldn’t take my eyes off it for 1 and a half hours. This drop is approximately between 60 to 200ft. It’s dangerous if you get too close to the edge. This was completely breathless and surprisingly empty. I am still dumbfounded as to why! We reached there at 5:30 in the morning to adore the sun games early in the morning, not to mention it was worth it. Things to carry when you visit this place: Hat/ umbrella/ headcover, Enough refreshments, Bug spray (In case a bee takes fancy to your hair). SUVs will fare better than sedans. The only thing I know, it is incredibly gorgeous and it gives you a moment of tranquillity. If you like this combination and have a possibility, definitely worth trying. Bhat eco tourism, shivrajpur: This location is on the way to Dhanpuri from Vadodara. Let me make it more informative. Ok, so there are some hiking trails around the area which can’t be missed if you’re at jambughoda. Prior online reservations are advisable. Still, you can try your luck on-site if any stay is available Stay places are nicely maintained and the best part is the food area is near about 1 km or so. Sharing some creative walls of the Bhat Tourism campsite here. It was so colourful and creative to live around Let’s move further to our second most amazing location- “Dhanpari Tourism” Situated under the stunning ridge in Jambughoda- the Dhanpari eco-tourism site is a perfect and well-maintained ecotourism site in Gujarat. Also, the best available stay facility is tent sites. Tents are nicely maintained and the best part is the food area is near about 1 km or so. Where you can enjoy some “me-time” under the sky. Chase the sunrise at Cheetah tekri It was a perfect beginning of the day. As the sun rises it gives me the feeling of fulfillment, of energy flowing through my body and it was just the beginning of the day! Some people pay a lot to get such viewpoints. I am lucky enough to live in a city close to such an amazing location. People are so busy these days that they just forget how incredible it is. I felt all of those moments which one should enjoy every day. Now when we were there at the location called “Cheetah tekri” No we didn’t have any excuses for not watching the sun rising. We lived very close to sunbeams. We experienced again all these amazing feelings from the prior COVID trips. We saw the sun’s rays changing from red to yellow. We saw this beautiful sky which we captured for you guys. We felt calmer and fascinated and we decided not to skip any moment. Because we had an amazing opportunity and we didn’t want to miss it. One of the great attractions for many people is backpacking in Western India. You will find plenty of activities and comfortable rooms at the end. One must take the road from Halol even though it is a little longer by a few minutes because this road takes you through Champaner and is a very beautiful drive. Opposite Champaner is Pavagadh where one will find Kalika Mata temple on the Pavagadh hill. To reach the temple you can either take the ropeway (INR 110) or climb around 2000 steps which is not difficult as the stairs are round about the hill. Jambughoda has a range of exciting possibilities for tourists that are curated to suit varying interests. A nature lover’s dream, one can revel in its numerous forest trails, waterfalls, trekking paths, picnic spots, lakes, bird sanctuaries, and other locations. Now let me walk you through a few things to do in Jambughoda The first and foremost I would like to mention is the Palace (A home for nature lovers). Jambughoda was a princely state that was established around 600 years ago in the late 14th century. Enveloped in a dense cover of green, the Jambughoda Palace – A home for nature lovers, lies nestled within the forests of a wildlife sanctuary. Some part of the palace is still a resident of the royal family; a part of the palace was opened as a homestay in 1999 and began with one room. Today 20 years later, the place is flourishing with 21 rooms and resort-like amenities. They also curate tourist excursions to the surroundings, depending on the interests of their guests. For those living in the surrounding parts of Gujarat, this place serves as a quick weekend getaway. For travelers who are looking to experience wildlife, and connect with themselves lost in nature, the Wildlife sanctuary is the place to be. Jambughoda has Dhanpuri (Eco campsite) accommodation inside the forest office. Dhanpari is a well-stocked forest ecotourism site situated inside the Jambughoda Wildlife Sanctuary. The campsite is surrounded by this magnificent forest which is home to a variety of flora and fauna. The plant species include teak, bamboo, etc. The leopard is the top predator here and other animal species include the sloth bears, blue bulls, jackals, wild boars, four-horned antelopes, and a variety of reptiles. The area has two water reservoirs, one at Kada and the other at Targol. The campsite is near the Kada Dam and it’s a beautiful site to visit with a picturesque location and it also has a forest rest house. The accommodation consists of A/c and Non A/c tents with meals included. The campsite has a beautiful walking nature trail and a separate area for a campfire. Next up we have the Vananchal Jungle resort which is surrounded by dense forest. An ideal getaway from the maddening crowd of the city. A perfect location, a perfect adventure, a perfect stay, and an endless forest to explore. This resort offers comfortable rooms to have a good night’s sleep after a long tiring day. They have a swimming pool, and other activities like trekking, rock climbing, rappelling, natural games, zorbing, and spa massage on request. They also offer sightseeing and excursion tours to the beautiful locations close by. Those who wish to experience moderate trekking and listen to the music of the jungle should visit the Zand Hanuman temple which is 6 km from Jambughoda. The trail to this temple is beautiful and lush green as it takes you through the forest. Even though your final destination will be the temple you won’t realize how far you have walked with nature alongside you. Hathni Mata waterfall is 18 km from Jambughoda. It is one of the pristine gems and a must-visit place on a trip to Jambughoda. It is one of the picturesque waterfalls, flanked by lush green hills and it is an oasis of divine beauty. Hathni means elephant lady in the local language and the place is so named because a cave from which a waterfall opens, houses a rock-shaped appearance like a baby elephant. This is a 100-meter body of water that falls beautifully along a cliff. The cool waterfall flows better, especially during monsoons. In the cave next to the falls, there is a small temple dedicated to Hathni Mata. The name Hathni is derived from the local tribal community of the rock that looks like a baby elephant at the foot of the waterfall. Visits to village markets
